Day 97 7pm Thursday 12th September 2019 ( UTC-1 )
Well we did our best but we finally arrived in the doldrums. The breeze from the West has gradually been getting lighter and now we are totally becalmed. The bright sun shine which has been with us all day until an hour ago or so is setting in the only piece of clear sky available. The rest of the horizon all round is occupied by heavy black showers and low cloud surmounted by towering CuNims. We were hardly making way so I put a precautionary first reef in the main. By the time this was done more thunderclouds appeared so in went the second. And then the jib was furled. So now if a reasonable wind develops I can unfurl the jib and get going which is a much more appealing thought than having itself flogging to bits in a 40 knot squall. In the bright sunshine and slow speed a Mahi Mahi finally caught up to the lure. Of about 2kg it will make quite a few more good meals, and in a shower last night I did some washing which dried nicely in the sun.
