It looks like we are established in the Trades at long last. One of the more sophisticated weather programs, ECMWF 9K, accurately predicted the position of the downwind lulls behind Antao so we had three quiet hours after lunch sailing through them. Because of the swirls associated with this phenomena the wind has now got quite strong so for comfort and less strain on operator and equipment we have two reefs in the main and the storm staysail set with jib furled. It will be a simple matter to let out the jib if things quieten down a bit but the reverse is not always the case. To celebrate I had a man sized chunk of Barbies Best Boiled Fruit Cake. I am sure it was chock full of essential vitamins and minerals but the thing I really appreciated was the flavour.
