Halfway
05 October 2019 | 100 Miles NNE Of Ilha Santo Antao Cape Verde Islands
Day 120 7pm Saturday 5th October 2019 ( UTC-1 )
The halfway point is a little arbitrary as it depends on the route followed without counting all the minor deviations and the proposed route across the Pacific but all in all as good a guess as any. Of course there is one important proviso. Just as it is said in running a Marathon of 26 miles and some yards the halfway point is 20 miles and then the going gets tough, the real test will begin once past the Falkland Islands. In the meantime I am making the best of a following or quartering breeze of around 16 knots averaging close to seven knots over the ground with a helpful current component of about 1/3 of a knot. The autopilot is handling this difficult task well with the jib poled out to Port and the single reefed main to Starboard. I have heard of athletes Carbohydrate loading and I wonder if I can Protein load - the initial haul this morning at 4am was 14 mostly large flying fish and when daylight came I chucked another six over the side. You know the old one - husband complains to wife about his dinner. She replies you liked bake beans on Monday, you liked baked beans on Tuesday, you liked baked beans Wednesday, how come on Thursday you suddenly donât like baked beans?
