Day 132 6pm Thursday 17th October 2019 ( UTC-2 )
The actual progress South was rather limited but barring that it was a most pleasant days sail. The good thing about today was the look of the sky. To the North there was the odd dark patch and towering CuNim in the distance but to the South all clear with just the little Trade Wind Cu's. I took advantage of the almost continuous sunshine to run the desalinator for 5 hours purely off the 80w solar panel so all tanks are again topped up. Power useage has to be monitored carefully though and unnecessary equipment is shut down. The items that are always running is the Echomax with its loud squawk turned on as well as the Iridium and WSSRC logger. Once alerted by Echomax the AIS is turned on and scanned each hour in the day but left running all night with no face illumination. The chart plotter is usually off and only used when position reporting. The autopilot face illumination is also turned off which should I need it it is easy to turn on in the dark. The VHF is only turned on when the Echomax is lit up. This way the the two 100ah house batteries can run things on their own and the 80ah engine starter battery is kept fresh. Since the Watt & Sea packed it in I run the main engine with its 115 amp alternator for less than 5 minutes each day just to freshen things up and to be sure it is available and ready for use.
