The gentle zephyr gradually increased through the night and in the morning I poled out the jib to the lee to give a fast smooth run to midday. As forecast the wind then rose sharply from ten or twelve knots to twenty or twenty five so a reef in the main and storm staysail handled this beam wind pretty well although not without the odd slap and crash. In regard to this I was annoyed to see the Watt & Sea controller had dislodged from the bulkhead fallen down and broken some of the plastic input leads. The only way of fixing the controller is by two bits of Velcro which remained stuck to the bulkhead and controller but had just let go. Some sort of cradle I think would be something to look into for a long trip. In case you're wondering Cabo Frio is about sixty miles due East of Rio so I'm just about East of Rio de Janeiro.
