If you forecast wind strengths on the Beaufort Scale at Force 9 to Force 11, Strong Gale to Violent Storm, often enough somebody is sure to take notice and that somebody was me. Accordingly the main is doused and lashed to the boom with it guyed centrally and the jib, poled to Port, is furled right down and the storm staysail is sheeted flat, almost fore and aft, to Starboard. Most of the programs show 25 knots at the moment increasing to perhaps 40 overnight in which case I will completely furl the jib which is quite controllable in its diminished size. To my surprise I managed to eat all but one helping of the Dorado which unfortunately had reached its use-by date.
