I eked out the last bit of Northing under single reefed main and staysail as the wind went more to the Northwest and it was time to change tack mid morning. The feel plus Predictwind showing an increase in strength the staysail was furled and a second reef put in the main. With a strong wind and the occasional breaking sea I find it most comfortable to have the sail well out with a guy from the stem and the boom down firm. This way we make 3 to 4 knots about 60 degrees off the true wind and with the reduced speed there is no crash as we do the odd up and over. I am certainly not looking forward to another 10 knots of wind but as Charles points out in this location we have plenty of sea room should it be required to run before. Great Minds!
