17 December 2019 | 270 Miles South Of Robinson Crusoe Island
Day 193 3pm Tuesday 17th December 2019 ( UTC-5 )
We are now sailing under my favourite combination of the full main well let out with a fore guy and the jib poled out to leeward. This gives a lot of power and at the same time is stable with no tendency to round up under the Windpilot. Just where we pass Crusoe is still dependent on the fluctuating movement of the South Pacific High which hovers in the locality to the West of the Juan Fernandez group but dribs and drabs can extend across our current track. As Robin Knox Johnston points out In A World Of My Own it is all too easy to calculate your ETA from the last days good run but without sticking my neck out too far, and if all the ducks line up I can expect to arrive back in Oz on the last Saturday in February.
