Dodging A Bullet
21 December 2019 | 175 Miles North Of Alexander Selkirk Island
Day 197 3pm Saturday 21st December 2019 ( UTC-5 )
Alexander Selkirk Island is the West island of the Juan Fernandez group and only recently gained this name. Apparently some bright spark in the Chilean Tourist Bureau thought by changing their names it would add interest to any prospective turistas and this and Robinson Crusoe certainly sounds more romantic than the old Island More Closer and Island More Further. A little bit of drama last night with a jibe and failure of the shackle on the pole topping lift with the end of the pole and lots of tangled ropes ending up in the drink but this was all slowly and carefully sorted with no damage. Travelling well and and trying to squeeze the speed towards the six knots mark and at the same time avoid any tendency to jibe. It is also nice to dodge the forecast winds of 35,45, or 55 knots on the other side of the High. None of these numbers are appealing.
