Day 203 2pm Friday 27th December 2019 ( UTC-6 )
At daybreak I decided we had gone far enough North without getting any closer to home so I set about preparing a downwind rig. As mentioned earlier the sliding fitting on the mast which holds the spinnaker pole had become bent when its topping lift failed so a lot of time was spent hammering it into some sort of usable shape. The asymmetrical which I blew up last time round and now repaired by Jesse was retrieved and set flying to Port with the jib poled out to Starboard. Much tinkering and tweaking unfortunately have been able to do much better than a slow downwind meander using the Windpilot as the apparent wind on the vane is either light or non existent in the light airs. In desperation some semblance of a course has been achieved using the autopilot as a stopgap but this will only do til sundown. Tacking downwind in these light airs either puts us in a blue hole to Port or just too much North going to Starboard so further work of some kind is required.
