In an undertaking such as this luck must be one of the elements contributing towards its successful conclusion and in this regard that fickle lady of fortune has smiled favourably on our endeavours. Gear failures such as have been experienced can be attributed to poor design wilful negligence or clumsy operation but not to the will of that fair lady. Westing The Cape Of Storms in late winter with barely more than a full gale, dodging a record late season hurricane in The Cape Verde Islands, rounding The Horn without a storm and now crossing the South Pacific in the silly season with its first three cyclones going before us to soak up any excess energy can only be the result of that elusive little word.
