Day 250 8am Thursday 13th February 2020 ( UTC +12 )
ETA 4:30am Friday 21st February 2020
Yesterday afternoon the breeze freshened slightly and to my concern we gybed and backwinded the poled out jib. Whilst preventers and guys stopped any damage the creaking and groans had me recall failures of fittings in these circumstances as I gingerly picked my way around the cockpit to sort things out. The jib furled and the storm staysail poled out wing and wing had me back in my comfort zone and still making six knots all night and this morning as I resist the temptation to go for broke. Cyclone Uesi is performing very much as predicted by my favourite weather program from PredictWind - GFS, so I look forward to a few more days of brisk sailing before tackling the lighter airs in its wake. Up till now my ETA has been based on the average speed of the previous week and as such is purely mechanical. From tomorrow I will be using the average of the four nav programs which may give a better picture in the ensuing lighter airs.
