Raiatea another magic spot.

Hotter than it has been!
We removed the main sail and craned it into the dinghy then dinghied a couple miles to the next bay where the sailmakers shop is and dropped it off after first having to hoist it out of the dinghy to the dock, no small feat, then lift shuffle drop rest lift shuffle drop rest then, well you get the picture, a hundred yards to the shop where Regine will effect repairs. It will cost about 1500 bucks but we need it to last untli NZ or Auz in order to have a new one made so it is what it is way out here. Regine's loft is tidy and well set up and we are confident the repairs will be sufficient to see us to somewhere to have the new one made. Sort of looking forward to having a new sail but not to the cost, about 20 K we think, ouch. The fact it has lasted so long is due to original construction, it is a tank of a sail and very powerful, Sobstad knew what they were doing to make a sail that lasted 20 years and still looks great. The repairs are really only due to one panel that has delaminated a little all the way up the sail and it would not be something you would want to have up when the crap hits the fan so has to be repaired, otherwise it still looks great and is very tough. The one panel is about 40 feet long and tapers top to bottom and it looks like the original sack of poo poo, a used Pampers diaper. We then cruised with a friend Scott from NZ via our dinghies over to Uturoa the main town for a look. It is a few miles and a cool ride but you need to yank the outboard up to shallow drive, real quick like, then slalom through the opening in the reef, missing the bombies and corql heads then drop the motor and get away quick before being swept into the shallows and getting beat up real bad in surf and coral. Not a nice way to spend your spare time. Town is beautiful, pretty good sized and has a Champion store that is by far the best store period we have seen since Vancouver. Fantastic stock, great produce, perfectly faced shelves, clean, great selection of all kinds of stuff and even the organic stuff we see at home Earthbound Organics and then we saw the mushrooms from Aldergrove, could not believe it. How can they get way out here still be fresh and affordable, or were they affordable? You decide. There is really a wharf you can come along side just like we were told by Lynn Stokes, it is calm and fuel is duty free and you can hang out for a few days for free, cant wait to go over there and fuel up and spend some more money. We are still anchored on the same bar, really well dug in. Our view is outstanding with Bora Bora, just to the west and makes for stunning sunsets while downing sun downers. Headed there soon enough. Getting a better handle on the balance of work and play. Today worked on the boom and goose neck, removed cleaned and re installed all lubed up and ready, cut some nylon washers out of rough stock and shimmed up the boom vang fittings after the required remove and clean and reinstall process so all that gear is ship shape, now sun downers at sun down. Photo of Bora just taken now is in the gallery!

Punta Chivato, a shell collectors dream come true, most people just stand there shaking their head and wondering how it could be possible that so many shells could be in one location. WOW! Gwen collected a few but it was better to just look and leave them there.
