Perfect day
04 August 2008 | Kelly Island
John and Cheryl
Cheryl's notes:
We entered Lake Erie today. We had the water almost to ourselves, which was quite a change from the weekend. We found wind and sailed with full sails for almost three hours. We had open water and nothing in our way. We stopped at the islands near Sandusky. They reminded us of home (Bayfield) and we anchored in a bay on the north side of Kelly Island. The bay had only one other sailboat at anchor. There were smaller craft with water skiers and some kids on jet skis. The water temperature was 86 degrees and so we dropped the dinghy and lowered the swim ladder. Tom dove in off of the deck and John went down the ladder. I followed, but rather timidly. Once in, it was very refreshing. The guys did some clean up around the water line of the boat, while I worked on dinner. I cooked corned beef and cabbage for the two Irishmen. It was the perfect dinner in the perfect spot.
John's notes:
Had a great 3 hour sail today. Wish it had lasted longer. We anchored and went for a swim. The water was a fantastic 86 degrees. Tom and I really liked it. Cheryl, on the other hand, thought it was cold. She, who has taken way more Bayfield showers than I have. Go figure.
I promised everyone that I wouldn't tell you about all the great gourmet meals, etc. that we have along the way; but, I have to make an exception for tonight. We had dinner at Chez Leprechaun. It's located in 12' of water in the north bay of Kelley Island. We dined on corn beef and cabbage with all the trimmings of the traditional Irish boiled dinner. It was fantastic. For dessert, the Chef even took me home to bed with her. Pure Irish luck? I think not!
