Welcome to New Jersey
22 August 2008 | Liberty Landing Marina, Jersey City, NJ
John and Cheryl
Cheryl's Notes:
The closer to NYC we got, the more boat traffic we passed. By the time we got to the marina, John was a nervous wreck. I thought that the taxi drivers in the city were bad, but the water taxi captains are maniacs. They cut back and forth across the river every few minutes. We motored into the marina, and the boats are packed in here like sardines. I don't know how they got some of them wedged into the slips. The fairways are really narrow.
We have more electrical problems with the boat. We are at our wits end. I am sure that John will explain. We spent a few hours trouble shooting and then gave up for the night. We took a water taxi across the basin to scout our wifi and something to eat. A two minute trip across the channel cost $1 each way. We got back to the boat and turned in early. Tomorrow we will head over to Manhattan.
Just for the record, we were docked a total of fifteen minutes before we were greeted with our first "How you doin?" Welcome to New Jersey
John's Notes:
A couple of hours before we arrived in New York City we noticed that our voltage was dropping again and that the tachometer was not working. Here we go again. As soon as we were tied off I started my troubleshooting routine. Nothing much worked this time. Checked all the connections, fuses, wires, you name it. It is so frustrating not to be able to find the problem. Got out my Nigel Calder book and tried checking different things. Nothing worked so far.
Can't believe the traffic on the Hudson River. Ferry's, water taxis, tugs with barges, tugs without barges, power boats, sailboats, ships, kayaks, dead heads. Most of them traveling at high speed (even the dead heads) Add to that helicopters flying low over you and it gets pretty scary. We were forced to dock between and along boats that are valued at millions. I can hardly wait to pull out of here Sunday.
