We are currently in Deltaville, VA. Great marina and fun people. Right after we got here we met a couple from the Twin Cities who are living aboard a BIG power catamaran. Then we met yet another guy who is living aboard a Catalina 47. He is a little weird but that seems a little hard to say when you consider who we are. After registering at the marina office we are on the way back to the boat and we see a boat tied up next to us and it is from Oriental, NC. They are living aboard a Monk 36 trawler. Gave me a tour. Really nice boat but just a wee bit on the small side. I'm thinking that a 40-42 footer would be about the right size. The 36 had everything you would want, just not big enough.
We ate at a place that comes and picks you up. Actually, the owner came and got us. Great service, good prices and friendly people. Still can't wait till I can just live aboard the boat and not spend all my times in marinas, bars and restaurants. I'm sick of eating out but Tommy is all over it so that he can meet lots of interesting new people. I guess it's working for him. I'm so tired at the end of the day I don't want to talk to anyone no matter how interesting they might be.
Off to Norfolk tomorrow and the Virginia Cut. For the first time today we heard Coast Guard stations from North Carolina on the VHF. First call we heard was from a boat taking on water at the Okracoke Inlet. Hopefully, that is not a sign of things to come. With any luck at all, depending on weather, we should be in New Bern in about 5 days or less. Can't wait. Aren't I supposed to be running naked on the beach and frolicking in the surf? Well, maybe that is a picture you might not want to paint in your mind.
Stay turned, we are in the home stretch. Pictures will have to be updated at a later date.
Additional note: Today was our first encounter with the dreaded BLACK FLYS since we left Bayfield. Tommy even had to put on long pants. Me, I just sprayed myself with the Cenex Barn Balm. Seemed to work.
