Waiting for Bill................
20 August 2009 | Solomons Island
John and Cheryl
Cheryl's Notes"
We left Annapolis early Tuesday morning and headed down the bay. Our final destination was Solomons Island on the Patuxent River. We anchored in the middle of Back Creek, close to where we were two weeks ago. BTW, have you noticed that most of the rivers and creeks are duplicated everywhere? It was confusing to us at first too. Annapolis has a Back Creek and so does the Patuxent River. There are several South Rivers and Wicomico Rivers.
We almost got Ron here safely, but he had engine trouble just north of the river entrance. He was forced to drop anchor and wait for a tow into the river. He is anchored near us, but has decided that he may lay his boat up here for the winter and do an engine overhaul. At least we don't have to lead him back down to the Potomac River. We have decided to lay around here until "Bill" decides where he is going. If things get bad, we will take a slip in the marina in front of the Holiday Inn. The best news is that the Steve Miller Band is performing an outdoor concert here on Friday night. We will either sit out in the dinghy and listen, or wander ashore and try to catch some of it. We are too cheap to buy tickets, as they are $55.
We are hoping the weather here will clear by Sunday or Monday. Then we will continue our journey south.
On a side note: Happy Birthday, Barb! How old are you now little sister?
John's Notes:
Not sure about the path of "Bill" but my sister was concerned enough to call me last night and send me the official weather report that FEMA watches. We had, and it looks like we might have more, heavy rain coming our way but don't think that it will much more effect on us. Since we are headed back to North Carolina we plan each days travel with a ultimate destination and an alternate hidey hole just in case bad weather sneaks up on us. FYI, the Holiday Inn has the cheapest happy hour that we have found so far.
