Kenai Fjords

Peter, my new crew, arrived in Kodiak on Sunday July 19, just as John was leaving to return to Shetland after four months of being on Let's Go!. I cannot thank John enough for helping me make a dream reality. Without him, it would not have happened and he was both a wonderful mate and crew and I will miss him, especially at cocktail hour, meal time where he prepared 90 percent of the meals willingly and with great style and arriving and departing ports where his line handling experience always made me look good. Having taken a quick look around the town of Kodiak Peter decided he was ready to head out and five days later we are sailing from the Kenai Fjords across the Gulf of Alaska to the Inside Passage at Cape Spencer. A little over 400 miles from Thunder Bay, our last anchorage. We spent a mere four days cruising Afognak Island north of Kodiak, crossing the dreaded Kennedy Passage that leads to Cook Inlet and savoring the incredible beauty of the Kenai Fjords. The anchorages that we stopped in were all special in one way or another. Spectacular scenery, incredibly diverse wildlife and the people we met were once again hospitable and generous with their time and advice without which we would have been running blind. With Peter's help, we have secured a storage space for Let's Go! in Wrangell, Alaska on the inside passage and we are planning on arriving early to get the boat sorted out before her haulout including beginning the winterization process. In the meantime, we have a date with rain and fresh winds for our arrival to be followed by a not too leisurely cruise down the Inside Passage.
