Year 10 Day 43 It’s Done!

07 March 2017 | Bobby's Marina, Philipsburg, SInt Maarten
Dave/Overcast with periods of rain, cool and windy

Yippee! Today, I finished rebuilding the cabinets that enclosed the washing machine and which provide storage for the various detergents, softeners, beaches and other stuff that Mary Margaret uses to keep our clothes sparkling clean. I ended up using all the various pieces of wood that I had taken apart…plus, I added one piece! I decided to reinforce the back wall of the cabinets and added a 1 by 1 to run the length of the back wall so that I could screw the back wall to the base that the washing machine sits on. I also replaced a number of the stainless-steel wood screws that I had removed because their heads were not in the best of shape. All in all, it looks just like new and I am so happy that this project is now behind me. Whew! I will post an “after” picture to this blog.

I spent the rest of the day replacing a couple of shade screens and reinstalling the drapes that cover the emergency hatch in our suite. I had brought the shade screens with us when we returned from the States in January and the drapes were removed when we replaced the old emergency hatch this January when we were still in Grenada. I could not do these projects back then because my 18-volt drill died and I needed to replace it. Since we have a 110/12 volt boat, I had to wait until we were in Sint Maarten to buy a new rechargeable drill. Sint Maarten is one of the few islands in the Antilles that uses 110 volts for their power. Thus, they sell 110 volt/ 60 hertz appliances and tools.

Our German neighbors returned very late this afternoon after touring the island. Like us last night, they were exhausted. Thus, we all agreed to delay our get together until tomorrow evening. Mary Margaret made a delicious quiche to share so it will be even better tomorrow as it always tastes better after aging for a day. We did dive into it for dinner but she made so much we have plenty left for sharing tomorrow. Yum!
