After spending the day working on boat projects (replacing the electrical connector clips on our wind meter, installing a new snap, checking out the wiring from our gauge display to the starboard engine) I was ready to join Mary Margaret and go over to our new German friends' boat. Inge and Jorg of SV Courante had invited us over for an evening of beer and conversation.
Mary Margaret brought her delicious quiche that she made yesterday while Inge had whipped up a wonderful soup of pureed vegetables and spices. She also sautéed a dish of green peppers and eggplant with garlic that was to die for.
Between enjoying this wonderful food and drinking our beers we got to know Inge and Jorg. They are from Hamburg and just bought SV Courante (a Lagoon 410) three months ago. They have owned two other boats (both monohulls) and have sailed for over 30 years in the Baltic, Med and Atlantic but like most people, once they stepped on board a catamaran, they knew what their next boat would be.
Their new boat, while built in 2004, is in beautiful condition and looks brand new. It was obvious that the previous owner, as well as themselves, have taken great care of her.
We were so thankful that Inge and Jorg spoke English so well as our German leaves a lot to be desired. In fact, we have noticed as we have gotten older, Mary Margaret's French and both of our Spanish has faded from memory. We have vowed to study our Spanish when we make our crossing this summer to Spain. We have kept all of our workbooks and notes from when we studied while in Columbia and Ecuador 8 and 9 years ago. Unfortunately, our Latin American Spanish is a bit different from the various dialects they speak in Spain. However, it should be close enough to communicate.
Inge and Jorg give us a lot of good tips regarding places to visit while in the Med. We are such babe's in the woods when it comes to that sailing venue.
Before we knew it, I was yawning away and it was time to leave our new friends. They will be sailing over to BVI soon and may leave for Margot Bay tomorrow. They believe that the French side of this island would give them a better sailing angle as the winds are from the NE. We are hoping our paths will cross again before we start our Atlantic crossing in May. They are such nice people!
