Year 10 Day 47 Auf Wiedersehen
11 March 2017 | Bobby's Marina, Philipsburg, SInt Maarten
Dave/Mostly Sunny
This afternoon our new friends, Inge and Jorg of SV Courante, sailed away. It was sad to see them leave but we have hopes of meeting them again someday and somewhere. They left Bobby’s Marina for the BVIs. The winds were light so they were anxious to try their small spinnaker type of sail. They had a name for it but it was one that I had never heard of before. It is just about 100 nm to the BVIs so it is an overnight sail and one where you leave in the afternoon to arrive shortly after first light the following morning.
Mary Margaret and I spent the day relaxing after working so hard yesterday. Plus, hey, it is the weekend! It is also our middle child’s birthday today. Happy Birthday, Christina! We sent her well wishes and a e-card. We will try calling her tomorrow so she can enjoy her special day with her husband and their three kids.
I did listen to the U of M versus U of M basketball game. As I predicted yesterday, U of M won! Man o’ man, am I clairvoyant of what! Fortunately, the correct U of M team won. The University of Michigan (our alma mater) beat the University of Minnesota, 84 to 77, to advance to the Big 10 Conference Championship game tomorrow. Whew, it will be three days in a row of listening to our team’s basketball game. It should be an interesting game since it looks like we will play the University of Wisconsin, who we recently beat. However, our poor players are all pooped out since they must play their fourth game in four days while Wisconsin will only be playing their third game in three days (they had a bye on the first day). Our team also suffered through an air plane crash the day before they played their first of these games. The plane had taken off and the wheels had come up when a violent wind blew the plane back down onto the runway. It slid along until it ran out of runway and then crossed a road and lumbered into a field before it came to a stop. Fortunately, no one was hurt but everyone was pretty shaken up. The team ended up flying to their game the next morning and immediately after arriving at the field house, had to play their game. Double Whew!
