Day 23, Southward bound
19 August 2010 | Rouse Bay, Lasqueti Island
Liberate. SE 5 knots Celar Skies 14C
I have neglected the blog for the last couple of days due to challenging weather and a couple of long days....Mighty Piece with Bob and Sue on board joined me in Sturt Bay 2 days ago after suffering the same way I did trying to round Grief Point...what an apt name.....they dropped the hook just at the edge of the bay and once again, Bob had a sleepless night keep a vigilant eye on the shore. after a solid 8 hours of sleep I payed them a visit for a morning coffee and chat on plans going forward. They are heading for Tribune Bay on Hornby while Liberate has her sights set on Nanaimo. we said our good bye's and Liberate's anchor was up in the next half hour with her bowsprit pointing south once more down the Malaspina Strait! as forecasted the winds had now backed to the North West and Liberate galloped along south under full sail in all her glory....
Now Liberate is not a fast boat and I do not recall ever passing another vessel while under sail...but today was our day....we sailed at 5.6 knots up behind and past a floating log boom being towed south....
As predicted the wind backed again to the SE and we spent the last hour beating into 18 knots of wind and steep seas born in the long fetch of the Georgia Strait.
Liberate headed for a familiar spot, Rouse bay. A Beneteau had taken our preferred spot so Liberate dropped her 35lb Bruce a little higher in the bay than we liked....I stern tied to a tree in a matter of minutes...a far cry from the first attempt on Wallace weeks ago!
A BBQ'd Bison burger, a quick shower and off to bed for a good sleep.
