Arrival in Canada
05 August 2013 | Dundas Harbor, Devon Island, Canada
PC
Just arrived happily in Lancaster Sound and anchored at Dundas Harbor on Devon Island (at twice the size of Switzerland, this is one of the largest totally uninhabited islands in the world).
The 3.5 day trip was uneventful, some wind, a lot of motoring, a lot of fog, some lonely icebergs, cold. The autopilote no longer works - as we are getting closer to the magnetic north pole the compass is totally confused and goes in circles. This means that we now need to steer ourselves all the time, by having one person at the (cold) helm, behind the big steering wheel.
The icemaps look really bad, as the ice only recently broke up, about 1-2 weeks later than the average of the last 10 years.
Expecting strong westerly wind approaching, so we will stay here at least for the next 2-3 days.
