Mast

09 June 2014 | Taiohae/Nuku Hiva/Marquesas
M & P
After 3 long travel days from Shanghai to the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia), we are happy to be back on our dear Libellule.

Unfortunately the last days were not particularly relaxing; Libellule arrived at Nuku Hiva with major mast problems. In fact the base of the mast is partially damaged. This meant for us that we were blocked in a beautiful bay (full of more or less friendly sharks) and surrounded by beautiful mountains for a couple of days, working day and night on finding a short term fix for our mast. No jumps from the boat, but nice hikes, good fish, and delicious fresh mango/grapefruit juices in the meantime.

The good news is that we seem to have found a good short term solution that should get us safely to the Tuamotus and then onward to the Society Islands, where we will most likely stop in a boatyard to de-mast and execute some proper mast repairs.

We will leave Nuku Hiva tomorrow morning for a 4-day sail with destination Tahanea/Tuamotus.
