Masters Sunday

11 April 2010 | Hope Town on Elbow Cay
jbl
We spent a wonderful afternoon at the Abaco Inn watching the final round of the Masters. While Phil Mickelson isn't my favorite I couldn't help but be impressed by his final round to win his third title. What a fabulous day of golf.
I have been delinquent in posting and am planning on lots of catch up so please bear with me. Lots more to come.

Just in case you didn't read my post about the gin clear water I thought a photo might make the point.

I forgot to mention that we have a mascot aboard. His name is Yertyl and he lives on the binacle. He enjoyed the trip over and is hoping to see some of his relatives once we get to snorkeling.

Yesterday was a work day. JBL did a full cleaning of the decks and cockpit. It had been quite a while since it was last done and when done it made a huge difference. Things are now squeaky clean.
We filled our water tanks as well and then it was time for laundry.
Just before departure I saw a 45+ foot power boat coming in and I went to help with lines. After quite a bit of maneuvering I asked the captain if he just looked like Jesper Parnevik or was he? He confirmed that he was Jesper. On board was another family which meant four adults, a nanny and seven kids. They had come over from West Palm for the weekend and he told us that they were the boat anchored just in front of us at Allans-Pensacola Cay. He is not playing golf as he is nursing a bad back and trying to avoid surgery. Both families seemed just delightful. A very nice experience.
The photo is of his boat passing ours on their way out as we had left and anchored out in the harbor.

On to Green Turtle Cay

It was Saturday and after an easy four hour run we arrived at Green Turtle Cay. After anchoring just off New Plymouth I went to check in with customs. The yellow Q flag in the photo shows that we had arrived and were in quarantine. The only problem was that customs was closed and wouldn't open until Tuesday because of the Easter holiday.
We worried at first, but another boat nearby told us to relax and not worry. They said to take down the Q flag and go about our business. The officials will be happy to get our money on Tuesday and any restaurants or shops will be happy to have our money in the meantime.
We then took up the Bluff House Marina's special offer of reduced dockage rates, "boater's bucks" and 100 free gallons of water. Boater's bucks mean anything you spend in the establishment is taken off the docking fees. That meant drinks and dinner and boat cleaning the next day were covered.

Day two on the Bahama banks

After a very peaceful night we were off to Allans-Pensacola Cay. It was a nine hour trip and, as you can see from the photo, the wind was not kind to us. Fine for those going the other way, but on our nose the whole way. No real problem as the seas were probably less than one foot.
