Happy 30th to us. No not 30th birthday, that ship sailed loooong ago. December 6 was our 30th wedding anniversary. We honeymooned in Key West and here we are 30 years later right back in the Keys. We rented a car for the day and considered driving down to Key West, only 50 miles from here, but didn't make it down there. We had a lot of errands to do that couldn't be done by bike, such as filling air tanks, buying and transporting heavy items such as oil for the boat and of course restocking the beer locker. Hard to carry cases of beer on the bike.
We wanted to eat at a nice restaurant, better than the local lunch and happy hour spots we have been going to. Several locals recommended a nice place on Grassy Key, the Hideaway Cafe at Rainbow Bend Resort. Glad we took their recommendation, it was great.
The Hideaway is a quaint, small restaurant that serves French food. They started us off with hot French bread and tomato tampanade. We ordered escargot for an appetizer, it was cooked in a butter, garlic and white wine sauce with spinach and tomatoes and covered with provolone cheese. Great for dipping that french bread in. For our entrees David had roast duck in honey teriyaki glaze and I had hogfish francese cooked in lemon butter sauce with capers. Both were delicious.
We had mentioned to the waiter that it was our annniversary so after we finished our main course he brought out a dessert, compliments of the chef.
It was stawberry key lime mousse (see above pic). Everything was great but we were stuffed when we finished.
Its hard to believe that we have been married for 30 years. It seems like only yesterday. How did we get so old?
