Farmers Cay
03 April 2018
Had a great day on Farmers Cay. We went to spend the day on Farmers along with Lodestar and Flying Saucer. Our first stop was in the harbor to see the turtles. The Bahamians have trained the turtles to come when called. They bang on a conch shell with a hammer and a dozen or so turtles come running to have a conch treat. They let the tourists feed them by holding the conch on a piece of string so they don't bite your fingers. At Staniel Cay you swim with pigs, at Compass Cay with sharks and now at Farmers with turtles. Each island has its gimmick.
After seeing the turtles we walked around the whole island. We walked over to Ty's restaurant, a beautiful beachfront setting but unfortunately they were closed (Easter Monday Holiday) but the guys who runs it lives next door and said he would open up and sell us drinks (we needed them as we were hot and sweaty from our hike). He said he couldn't serve food since the cook was off so we had some beers and cokes and sat a while on the deck and enjoyed the view.
Once we got back to the harbor we decided we were hungry so we went to the Farmers Cay Yacht club for lunch. After that we headed over to Ocean Cabin for cocktail hour. Terry Bain who runs Ocean cabin kept us entertained for a while with jokes, stories and even had us sing the Farmers Cay song. Quite a character.
Finally headed back to our boat to continue the happy hour and watch the sunset. Another great day in paradise.
