We recently learned a new term, "Bitch Wings".
When you come into a crowded anchorage and anchor near another boat the owner often times stands on the front of their boat, feet spread, hands on hips and glares at you as if to say you are too close. Bitch wings refers to the way the arms are when planted on the hips. If someone has given you their bitch wings it means you are too close.

Our friend John on Godspeed always teases us about having our paravane arms out and our flopper stoppers deployed all the time. I tell him I don't want to wake up in the middle of the night rolling and that they don't do any good on deck, only in the water. He says we take up too much room in the anchorage, despite him being a large catamaran that is much wider than we are. I tease him back by saying we only put the arms out to keep him away from us.

So now we refer to our paravanes as our bitch wings. I don't have to go out and glare at people for being too close, we have built in bitch wings.
