We have taken up a new activity, playing bocce ball. The park next to the marina always has lots of activities going on. They have 2 bocce balls courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer and baseball fields and a skate park. Last year I was asked to join a pickle ball team but declined because I had no idea how to play and they played early morning. I am not very athletic and also kinda lazy early in the day. Bocce was advertised as requiring no skill and taking place at 2 in the afternoon. Since we had become friends with Roger and Peggy of Never Say Never and they were in charge of organizing bocce we thought we would give it a try.
We tried it and its easy. We play in teams of 2 or 4 depending on how many people show up. David and I even won our very first game, beginners luck I guess. It is mostly a social event. We bring our drinks and chairs and visit while waiting our turn. Its really laid back, nobody gets really competitive. We play from 2 until 4 and then its time to head to one of the local restaurants for happy hour. We have fun and have met lots of nice folks. Its more of a social thing than a sport.
