Money Bat

05 March 2020 | Blackpoint
We are in beautiful Blackpoint. Finally had a few days of less wind so were able to enjoy the water. Enjoyed time catching up with friends on Stout Wench, SaberTooth, & Summer of42. Went to Scorpio's for happy hour a few times and a Chill and Grill at Lorraines. Always have a good time here.

While sitting on our boat visiting with Al and Sue of Stout Wench this huge bug in the picture flew into the boat and made himself at home. It is a type of moth that the Bahamians call a Money Bat. They grow quite large, up to about 6 inches across. When they swoop down on you at night they look like a bat. According to Bahamian lore if one flies into your house it will bring you good luck and prosperity. We left him in until bedtime but I had to shoo him out. I couldn't go to sleep thinking I would wake up with it landing on me. Hope I didn't chase away our luck and money.
