Into Canada and heading north
23 June 2013 | Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, BC
Overcast, then sunny, no wind
Yesterday, we crossed the Strait then mostly motored with some sailing up the west side of San Juan Island. We chose this route because of the many Orca whale sitings reported in this area. Unfortunately, this time the pod was located near Cattle Pass on the south side of the Island. We checked into Canadian Customs easily at Bidwell Harbor on South Pender Island. After anchoring in the harbor overnight, we motored all day today (no wind, but mostly sunny) past numerous islands, through Dodd Narrows and into Nanaimo Harbor anchoring in Mark Bay to be exact. Our location happens to be just a short dinghy row to the Dinghy Pub and Restaurant...a lively place where we watched the fifth game of the Stanley Cup...GO BRUINS!! We are entering more scenic areas and the best is yet to come. People are friendly and water will soon be warm enough for swimming.
