Our longest linger yet
20 April 2014 | Shearwater, Denny Island, BC

We've lingered too long at Shearwater on Denny Island on the BC Coast but it wasn't by design. Fortunately, during the off-season, moorage on the dock is complimentary, there are some nice walks (but beware of wolves and bears), and conveniences (grocery store, restaurant, laundromat) and very friendly people.
We arrived here on a beautiful, warm and sunny day, Sunday, April 13, with expectations of crossing Milbanke Sound and heading north in Finlayson Channel the next day to explore and soak in several hot springs along our route to Prince Rupert (last stop before crossing into Alaskan waters). Ah, but not the case. A series of strong low pressure systems were moving in causing high winds and high seas in Milbanke Sound. Day after day (sometimes hourly), we watched and listened to the forecasts. While docked safely at the marina, we sat through occasional gusty winds and pounding rain, clearing skies, a calm harbor, and pleasant to nasty weather while the seas were building outside where we wanted to go. But we made the best of it mostly meeting new friends caught in the same circumstances, hearing about their travel/life stories with interest and lots of laughter.
But we're ready to move on as the forecast is looking favorable for an early morning departure tomorrow the 21st.
