Alaska - We made it!
01 May 2014 | Ketchikan, AK
Sunny & clear
We arrived in Ketchikan, Alaska on Monday, April 28 (same day as the very first cruise ship of the season) under blustery conditions. Once safely docked at Bar Harbor Marina, we explored only a little due to the constant rain for three days. Today, May 1, the sun is shining and the forecast is looking favorable for the next five days as we prepare to depart Friday for Misty Fjords where we’ve heard the scenery is breathtaking, the fishing/crabbing plentiful, deafening peace and quiet, and wildlife (mountain goat, bears, and birds) is ubiquitous.
Observations so far have been the continuing increase of daylight hours, currently at 15.4 hours (18+ hours at June’s solstice) and tidal differences of 16-18 feet, at spring tides, and closer to 20-22 feet as we head further north.
The adventure continues.
