Getting our ship together
13 October 2014 | San Diego
We arrived at the Harbor Island West Marina in San Diego on September 19. The trip down the coast was not what we expected with light winds and lumpy seas. Much to our dismay, we did more motoring than sailing. The marina is fantastically hospitable and accommodating, and we’re meeting oodles of locals as well as other cruisers traveling south to Mexico.
The weather here has been about the same every day since arriving…sunny, warm in the 70s, 80s, and 90s last week, with a pleasant breeze that starts in the late morning and builds slightly until sunset. This may sound boring but we’re LOVING IT, hoping our bodies can acclimate before traveling further south into even warmer climate.
We expect to hang around in San Diego until sometime in November while we work on boat projects to prepare us for future time spent in Mexico where quality boat repairs and upgrades are less available. We’re able to get around by dinghy, walking or by bus to other areas of the City where we do errands and spend more dinero. San Diego is a happening city, but we’re committed to getting our ship together before exploring more as tourists.
