Passage - Leland Marine, McClellanville, SC to Charleston City Docks, SC
8:32 AM Underway
2:07 Docked
40 miles 6.6 engine hours

This passage goes through a real trouble area for shallow water. Our boat only needs 3’ 6” of water under it. So, there aren’t many trouble spots for us compared to many sailboats needing 5-6’. The sailboat docked directly in front of us needs 8’ . There are lots of places he can’t go. The area just before entering Charleston harbor, Isle of Palms had all kinds of warnings. So, I was timing our arrival through that area of the ICW to be at half tide and rising. That way if I ran aground the tide would be lifting me off instead of going down making things worse. Most of what I was seeing was 10 to 13 feet. But the tide range here is 5-6 feet. So, dead low tide could certainly be a problem.

Susan arranged our dockage as she does everyday. We docked at the Mega Dock, Charleston City Marina with a 159’ sailboat, Thalia, behind us http://www.charterworld.com/index.html?sub=yacht-charter&charter=thalia-2927 and a 142’ Motor Yacht, Sunchaser, in front of us http://www.charterworld.com/index.html?sub=yacht-charter&charter=sunchaser-2420 . Yes our 36’ yacht fits right in here on the Mega Dock.

A friend Jay Schutte and Traci, his daughter, dropped by for a visit last night. We have certainly had lots of guests along our trip so far. It was great showing them the boat and talking about EVERYTHING. And, Susan’s cousin, Mary Duncan and her husband Estes might stop by tomorrow afternoon.
We will be taking in the sights of Charleston tomorrow (Sunday).

Monday we make our push for Port Royal, SC where we plan on having Thanksgiving.

The ICW bow mustache is growing on Liquid Therapy. So, today’s picture is Liquid Therapy at the Mega Dock.
