Day 58 Thursday, December 17, 2015

Passage - Pine Island Anchorage to Loggerhead Palm Beach Gardens, FL
7:58 AM Underway
5:11 PM Docked slip C20 Loggerhead Palm Beach Gardens
63 miles 10.9 engine hours
Wow, a very long day after not sleeping that well at the anchorage. It was just a little too warm for good sleeping. But, the sky was wonderful to look at through the open stateroom hatch. Kind of made me think of space travel. Looking up at the sky made me want to go see the movies “The Martian” and “Star Wars”. Anyhow at 5:30 I got up and got prepared for a long day. We wanted to get as far south as we could before the bad weather sets in tomorrow with the cold front and maybe thunderstorms down here in FL. The wind and the tide fought us most of the day. But, still we made 63 miles. Not bad. The wind was really bad with steady 15 knots out of the SE and I measured gusts of 26 knots. That’s a lot of wind and from the wrong direction too. I was wondering at what point does the canvas enclosure give way. But all the seams held. I think our canvas girl builds very strong canvas enclosures.
Anyhow, it was long and bouncy. The wind conditions would have been impossible on the Chesapeake Bay. But we are in protected waters of the Indian River and that keeps the waves from building like they do in the Chesapeake.
We are starting to get a little worried about getting marina reservations. We have had no trouble getting a slip at any marina until today. We called the marina in Miami we want to stay at near Jonathan’s and they say they are full into the new year. So, we are trying to figure where we might try next.
Then when we called the marina we wanted to stay at in Jupiter tonight, it was full and we had to travel a little further to this marina.
Tomorrow is a work day. Catch up on bills, transmission fluid change, and fuel filter change while the weather rages.
Today’s picture is a golf course along the ICW in Jupiter. I don’t play golf. But if I did this course would be on my list.
