Day 80 Friday, January 8, 2016
Passage - Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park to Gilbert’s Resort & Marina Key Largo, FL
10:07 AM Underway
12:41 PM Docked Boater’s Grill, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, FL
4:20 PM Docked Gilbert’s Resort & Marina
34 miles 7.1 engine hours
The day started out drizzling and with light winds. Nice ride down Biscayne Bay. We saw Stiltsville ( http://www.stiltsvilletrust.org/pages/stiltsville_miami_fl_biscayne_bay.html ) Pretty amazing. I hope the preservation of the 7 remaining structures continues.
It was not a good day to stop at Boca Chita or Elliott Key ( http://www.nps.gov/bisc/planyourvisit/elliottkey.htm ). We cannot get close to either except by a dingy ride. With it raining and the winds supposedly getting up, we pushed on down Biscayne Bay and entered the REAL keys, starting here at Key Largo.
It seems we were on the phone all day long while underway, trying to get a slip reservation at Gilbert’s, disputing charges at my stepfather’s care facility, and hearing from that our basement had basement flooded.
So, you see it’s not all pretty sunsets and calm seas. Life events continue no matter what. It takes quite a support system back home for us to do this trip. Many thanks to all involved!
We had a very nice meal at Gilbert’s Resort, $9.99 1/2 rack of ribs and a beer included! Best food deal we have had. A very good band entertained us as well.
Tomorrow, I’ve got to dig out the printer / scanner to receive insurance stuff to sign, and scan back.
UGH.
Today’s picture is a vicious crocodile guarding Gilbert’s restaurant deck.
