Passage - Bayside Marina, Islamorada, FL to Anchorage Everglades National Park, Cape Sable, FL Gulf Of Mexico
10:40 AM Underway
4:42 PM Anchored 25° 09.30’N 81° 08.13’W
7.5 engine hours 43 miles
It’s early Wednesday morning as I write this. Sunrise in about 30 minutes. Wonderful anchorage. We are anchored in the Everglades National Park and are off the grid. No cell service. No internet. No TV. So, I’m not sure when this will be posted.
We had a wonderful day cruising from the Florida Keys’ Florida Bay into the Gulf Of Mexico. This is one of those zen days. Perfect weather with very light winds, warm temperature, calm seas as we navigated into an area that few people see - The Florida Everglades National Park on the Gulf of Mexico. After we anchored, we considered dropping the dinghy and going ashore to the beautiful beach along the Everglades. I was pretty tired and was thinking, Can I outrun an alligator? So, we might take the dinghy in in the morning after coffee, when we are more alert. So, if I don’t post this you know the gator got us.
We did enjoy a nice sunset with a perfect temperature and a celebratory drink to getting to finally anchor out. And, since we were in the Gulf Of Mexico, we figured we should have tequila. But, tequila makes you crazy. Soo?
After dark, we shined our spotlight on the shore to look for red eyes staring back at us, but saw none. That would have been alligator eyes.
We ran through lots of weeds. I’m going to check the engine strainer before we head out today.
Beautiful sunrise coming in a few minutes.
