Happy Memorial Day everyone!

What’s wrong with us anyway? All the cruising boats are headed north and we are headed south. Seems a little late for snow birds to be arriving in the north. Oh well we are headed south to Ocracoke, NC.
Today was much better traveling than yesterday. It’s funny when we tell our friends that use their boats in the Chesapeake Bay about going to Florida or the Bahamas on our boat they often say how brave we are. Brave? I tell them when they want to know the worst part of the trip that the Chesapeake Bay is the most daring part. Just 22 miles is all we have to travel to get to the calm waters of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AICW).
Anyhow, it finally occurred today that we are the only cruising boat headed south. We met lots headed north. But, no one overtook us the entire day heading south.

It was a very nice day. Not too warm. Not too much wind. And, hey we are traveling the ditch from about statute mile 12 to mile 49 of the AICW. You can read about the history of the AICW https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intracoastal_Waterway . It really is an amazing stretch of water.
I made one navigational error today passing on the wrong side of a day marker. Lots of things were going on and it was hot and I looked at the chart plotter and saw I was headed for the wrong side of the marker. I double checked with my iPad and it said the same thing. So, against my gut feeling I swung over to the incorrect side of the marker. I got away with the error only because Liquid Therapy only draws 3 1/2’ of water. But I can’t tell you how many day markers ( Navigational signs on poles NOT BUOYS) that if you go on the wrong side of you will certainly be aground. And, sometimes getting close to the correct side will cause you grief as well. Well everybody, it was my fault. But the NOAA charts are way WRONG along here and that’s why the chart plotters led me astray. Yes NOAA charts are wrong in places and if you follow them they will take you across ground and show you in deep water. Anyhow all the bottom paint is intact on Liquid Therapy.
We docked at Midway Marina in Coinjock across the waterway from the famous Coinjock Marina. They have 15 boats tied up and poor Midway only has two. I really like this marina. But it will be out of business soon if they don’t fix it up.
Anyhow we got a ride to a really nice barbecue restaurant and are watching a little TV before we hit the sack. Tonights weather is supposed to storm and hopefully be clearing early in the morning. Manteo is 34 miles, about 6 hours. Keeping fingers crossed for the weather.
Today’s picture is a “What’s Wrong With Us?” picture of the boats at the Coinjock marina across the waterway from us. They are all headed north and we are the only boat pointing south.
