31 SM 5.3 Engine Hours
7:53 AM Underway
12:23 PM Docked face dock, port side to Fernandina Harbor Marina
Monday we refueled. I didn't fill up. Diesel was $3.15 / gallon. I took on 110 gallons of diesel. We still had 80 to 100 gallons left. The last time we filled up was January 10 to be full when we left the US for the Bahamas. I'm planning two more fuel stops before we get back to our home marina, Horn Harbor Marina in Mathews, Virginia. We have about 1200 miles of range with full tanks. So, I can look way ahead and purchase fuel where it is lower priced. Osprey Marina $2.56 /gallon , in Myrtle beach and Top Rack Marina in Chesapeake, VA, $2.34 / gallon, are my two favorite places to buy. The 110 gallons will get us to Myrtle Beach. I'll probably buy about the same amount there to get me to Top Rack. I will fill up at Top Rack as it has the cheapest fuel in Virginia. So there is my refueling strategy for the remainder of the trip.
We are spending two nights in Fernandina as thunderstorms are predicted. I hate thunderstorms at home and especially on the boat. We had the nicest dinner ashore last night. Local shrimp. I got mine tempura fried and Susan grilled. When we got to the Crab Trap restaurant there was a 1 1/2 hour wait for a table. We asked if they had space at the bar. They did and we were seated and served right away. Sitting next to Susan was a lady Physician from Afton, Virginia! I had a local guy next to me. Susan and I have lots of fun sitting at bars when a restaurant is full. I believe you get better service as the bartender is always close by.
Today, Wednesday, we walked into town and visited a distillery. The distillery has been open for 3 years and uses only Florida molasses, fruit and botanicals for their products. It was a wonderful talk. I had to buy their gin and rum. Susan liked their peppered vodka.
After leaving there we went to the local seafood store, and you guessed it, we bought local shrimp that I'm going to cook tonight.
We are headed to St. Simons, GA in the morning. Last night in Florida this year.
Today's picture was taken by Susan before I got my haircut. I hadn't cut it since we left in October.
