DAY 1 OF OUR FALL CRUISE

Day 1 Tuesday, October 1, 2019
Passage - Hudgins Horn Harbor Marina to Fairport Marina, Reedville, VA
9:00 AM Underway
2:00 PM Docked port side to
6.7 engine hours 41 miles
Writer’s block. I’m having writer’s block. Or, it’s just hard getting back into the swing of cruising, planning, driving, docking wears you out. And, then I’m too tired to write. Yesterday was our first day of our fall cruise.
Nope, not headed down the AICW to Florida or the Bahamas. Not going to Ocracoke for the Pirate Jamboree. Hurricane Dorian ruined our two favorite cruising destinations - The Abacos and Ocracoke. How odd is that fact that one hurricane destroyed two places we love. We feel and have donated money to both places.
So, instead of heading south, we headed north. We have never been up the Potomac to DC. So, that is one destination. Lots of events all over the Chesapeake Bay this time of the year. So, who knows where we will venture.
One thing we know is we still LOVE our boat Liquid Therapy. The boat was made for long distance cruising. We didn’t realize that when we bought the boat in October 2009. Yep 10 years we have owned Liquid Therapy. Still love her.
We always meet characters when cruising or just sound boats. Yesterday was no exception when we sat down at Leadbelly’s Restaurant and an older fellow sat down at our table uninvited to chat with us about Liquid Therapy. He was older? That means older than us. HA.
His grandparents and parents had been boat builders. Wonderful guy to chat with. Not sure what’s going to happen to all the old stories of building 90’ wooden boats when people like him are gone. It will just be unwritten history that vanished.
We had a nice meal of oysters and a seafood BLT. We were the only transient customer. Certainly was quiet at the dock. Restaurants are shutting down as the season is slowing down. The other main restaurants in town were closed only being open on the weekends now.
I was a little slow on getting a decent sunset picture for my blog. Just out of sorts with the camera as well as writing.
Yesterday’s picture was the 130’ Reedville Smokestack. https://www.savingseafood.org/other-news/a-landmark-restoration-effort-for-reedville-smokestack/
