Day 11 Monday, May 30, 2021
Docked River Dunes Marina, Oriental, NC
Happy Memorial Day. Thank you to all the members of our military that died in the line of duty keeping us safe. The ultimate sacrifice is very hard to grasp.
OK, I’m telling one of our new friends as I’m hugging her goodby how I love Susan and love hugging Susan, but for a year due to Covid I’ve not been able to greet people or say goodby with a short endearing hug. So, I tell her now I’m hugging until it gets awkward to make up for lost hugs. We are both laughing and sure enough it gets awkward and we quit. I’m sure her therapist will be hearing about the unwinding of Covid hug.
And, get this a guy at the impromptu dock party stuck out his hand for a hand shake and we both said just how good a handshake feels after a year of avoiding people. It’s really nice to be vaccinated and nature seems to be also getting over Covid. This Covid nightmare, a year of seclusion and suspicion of other human beings, has been really tough.
It was really nice meeting new boaters on the dock at the impromptu dock party. One of the boats had provided pulled North Carolina barbecue that she had cooked in a crock pot on her boat and also homemade ice cream! One couple had sold their home and now the boat is their home. Susan and I were the designated experts about the Chesapeake as none of the cruising boats we were gathered with had been there. We spoke with interested boaters about places to visit in the Chesapeake as that was their cruising destination. One boater I was interested in talking with was on his way to Maine. He had never been there and neither have we. All of us were concerned about the rocky shores, lobster pots to avoid, fog and huge tidal swings. I wished them well but don’t think Liquid Therapy will be going to Maine this year at least.
Tuesday will be our last day at River Dunes and we will be headed to Ocracoke on Wednesday for the music festival. So, it will be laundry day and making sure Liquid Therapy is ready to cruise.
Today’s picture is the American Flag flown on our bow staff.
