Docked - Berkley Marina Ocracoke, NC
The music festival audience has been arriving by ferry and boats. The internet here is overloaded and has slowed to a crawl. I’m not sure I’ll be able to post this for a while.
The weather has just been iffy with thunder and lightning in the distance and heavy rains off and on. The window I fixed from leaking is uh - leaking. Liquid Therapy is 42 years old. While much of her is still very sound, there are issues with window leaks and drainage issues as well. I’ve removed the wooden frames on many windows, put new tracks in and resealed everything. Much of that work has paid off, some has not.
Then there are the other differences between a boat that a house. A house sits still and the boat moves. Underway the boat expects wind and waves on the bow and is built for that. Also at anchor the boat knows to turn into the wind, meeting rain head on. Tied to a dock, rain hits at angles that end up with pools of water being blown uphill into places and dripping in.
As I’m typing this the wind and rain squalls are hitting us port broadside causing us to heel like a sailboat.
We did get a couple hours respite from the rain last night and drove to Howard’s Pub for dinner. Susan had beautiful rare seared tuna on a salad and I had a Mahi sandwich. Both were the local seafood harvest and were excellent.
Today’s picture is the Swan Quarter Ferry getting underway backing out of its slip. Did I mention it’s raining?
