Day 4 of our 2024 Fall Cruise, Wednesday, October 16, 2024
Docked - Tidewater Yacht Marina, Portsmouth, VA.
It’s blowing 16-22 knots out of the north this Thursday morning as I write. Liquid Therapy is straining the dock lines and the boat is creaking like we are in some old sailing movie. We are safe at the dock. It’s 51º cloudy and spitting light rain from time to time. We didn’t move yesterday and we are not going anywhere today.
Yesterday we walked into Olde Towne Portsmouth to stretch our legs and eat lunch somewhere. Portsmouth was pretty with many old homes and buildings. We passed a cute coffee shop, a children’s museum and a general store on High Street. Eventually we found one of our old haunts for lunch, Lobscouser’s http://www.lobscouser.com restaurant. Looking at the menu and prices, we thought we’d gone back in time. Not that we wanted a bloody mary cocktail, but they were only $4.00. Most cocktails these days are over $10. Likewise for flounder with lemon cream sauce for $9.00 with two sides. Susan got scallops with Smithfiled ham sauce, again $9.00. The place was packed at 1:30PM when we arrived. I wondered if the people running Lobscouser’s ever ate dinner out. Everything was great and very reasonably priced.
On the way back we walked along the Elizabeth River waterfront and marveled at the warships being worked on in the yard across the river. Nice walk. Sidewalks and streets are pretty quiet this time of the year as the tourist season is over.
Back on the boat I planned a route for anchoring Saturday night near the Albemarle Sound. Our current plan is to arrive in Manteo, NC on Sunday.
Today’s picture is the sunset from Liquid Therapy’s fly bridge.
