Day 5 of our 2024 Fall Cruise, Thursday, October 17, 2024
Docked - Tidewater Yacht Marina, Portsmouth, VA.
Thursday was an uneventful windy lay-day. It’s Friday morning as I’m writing this.
I do not have much maneuvering room for departure as a 50’ catamaran has come in and tied up to the dock downwind of me. I need to pull out and hang a left 90º turn. If I just pull out of the slip I would be blown into the boat before I could get turned completely. When I turn the boat into the wind, our bow is not going to respond to that very fast either. I’m going to have some assistance on the dock as I pull out of the slip, with our port midship spring line attached to force the tight left turn. Once turned, I will have the dock hand release the spring line from the dock and we will be underway. I have done this in the past, but it’s been a while. The wind has backed off and is blowing around 10 knots. We should have a pleasant ride down to Atlantic Yacht Basin today, only about 11 miles.
Today’s picture is the Portsmouth Love sculpture.
