Invercockieleekie Interlude
01 August 2011
On my three-bus journey back to Orkney, here I am in Inverness, very happy to have found Jimmy Chung's all-you-can-eat diner for a decent lunch, followed by a nice new wifi cafe to compile this blog entry! My previous scathing comments about Inverness can now safely be disregarded. While it is still not my favourite place in the Highlands, it obviously has its good points.
As has the system whereby as the holder of a concession ticket (because of advanced years ie over 60) I can journey from home to the top coast of the country for 50p! Hoorah! Even the Orkney ferry offers age-related discounts, so long as you don't book online!
So, on consulting the runes and the Met Office for weather advice, it looks as though we will be casting off at the early hour of 5.30am tomorrow, in the direction of Cape Wrath and hopefully Kinlochbervie, maybe Loch Eriboll, or who knows? See which way and how strongly the wind blows.
I have just had six days of idyllic weather in Ardfern, wearing shorts sandals and T-shirts. Let's hope the rain and mist that came in yesterday will not linger. In any case we are heading generally south now, homewards.
Home with the family was great, we had some very enjoyable musical sessions with Connor on accordion, Abby on violin and myself on banjo (so long as everything was in G major) and otherwise guitar! I can see the germ of a future ceilidh band, available for parties, dances, bar-mitzvahs..........
We even swam in the loch, it was so hot! (See photo) And there was much landscape and portrait painting in watercolours, evidence of which is on display in the back lobby of the house!
