on our way to Cheticamp

03 August 2013
Monday July 29,2013

A 5am start gets us out of the harbor by sunrise and we are on our way to Cheticamp, We have decided not to round the north end of Cape Breton, The currents and waves can become challenging and the harbors are questionable in terms of silting and depth on the way in. We are concerned that in a rolling sea we may be pushing our luck.
The wind direction and speed are favorable to run the west coast and there are two deep well protected harbors on our route.
We ride down 8-foot rollers on our way into port and are hailed by a Queen City Yacht Club boat tied up at the town dock. It’s Jonathon Maguire and Nina Nakajima and there two children aboard their beautiful 49 foot Westerly “Blue Hour”. They left Toronto 10 weeks ago and are on their way to the Magdalens and will probably catch up with us again next week in the Bras d’Or Lakes.
