the big rain

Another early start and we are on our way to Ballantynes Cove. The 10-hour run is calm and forces us to motor sail most of the way. A black cloud rises to our west and there is no doubt that we are going to get some rain. Time to take the sails down. Thunder and lightning build and soon we are in the heaviest rain we have seen this whole trip. A wall of water makes for zero visibility. Fortunately there is very little wind and only one other boat to keep an eye out for. The rain lets up just as we enter the harbor but now we must fight against a ridiculously strong current generated by the river flowing down from the mountains. Our lines are caught by the harbormaster who has been watching the otters that have been washed down the river and are scampering onto the docks in a desperate attempt to avoid being washed out of the harbor.
