Here is the first of hopefully many more to come. This is the first post and is appropriately named "The Beginning". Now the story...the beginning was actually April 19, 2008. My wife Minerva and I purchased our first sailboat. I had the good fortune of growing up around boats and love being on the water. My wife, while she grew up near the coast in Middletown , RI, did not have the opportunity to do the same. We had a center console a few years back and enjoyed spending our weekends in the Beaufort area. Shackleford Banks was a favorite for both of us. The biggest draw back was the drive back to Raleigh at the end of the day. Everyone in the car would be sound asleep within 10 minutes on the road. Makes for a very long drive. We sold the boat and agreed that the next boat would need to have a berth so we could spend the weekend.

A couple of years later, the itch to get back on the water was gathering momentum. After some discussion, we decided that we would enroll in a sailing course and try something different. We met Chris and Jim from Oriental School of Sailing at the Raleigh Boat Show and signed up for their course in June 2007. Going into the class, I was not sure if Minerva would enjoy sailing or not. We had very hot days and couple of good storms that left us soaking wet. Great things was that she enjoyed it. Fast forward to April 2008, and we purchased out first sailboat. Our time between the class and the purchase was full of adventure and experience that I will write about later. For now, we are owners of a 30' Hunter which is located at Ensign Harbor in Whortonsville, NC. More to follow that will tell the story of our purchase and first few times on the water.
