Day 18 report - the downhill run

I'm writing this on the night watch of day 18 of our Pacific crossing to the Marquesas. It is a starry starry night and I'm on the
solo watch until midnight. We will have a crescent moon sliver tonight, and it will not come up until very late in the night, like
3 or 4 am. So it is pretty dark and great for star gazing. I absolutely love sailing on nights like this one.

We had a busy day on Lover Of The Light. We just doused the spinnaker, as the breeze picked up to over 20 knots. And we continue
to find creative ways to sail downwind with limitations to equipment: we have now broken a spinnaker halyard (twice), a genoa
halyard, and the tack line on the spinnaker. We did sail successfully all day with the spinnaker again today. Tonight we are
sailing wing on wing with a full powered up main sail and a poled out stay sail on the windward side of starboard tack. Today we
also repaired the foot seam on our main sail, as it is showing signs of wear and splitting on edge of the foot.

Tomorrow we are doing some re-rigging of our genoa halyard and probably our spinnaker block configuration to better prevent chafe
occurence. I've also repacked the bearing on the alternator for the gen-set and plan to put that back on the engine in the
morning and see if we can get it to run. The gen-set is a much easier and efficent way than our big engine for us to recharge our
batteries and run things like our water maker.

We are on the home stretch on this downhill run.

Distance sailed: 2,593 miles
